ahmad-zuhd:1656ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū al-Ashhab

[Machine] I heard Hasan reciting this prayer, "O Allah, grant my soul its righteousness and purify it, for You are the Best to purify it. You are its Protector and Guardian." And Ashhab reported from Hasan, saying: "They used to say: The best of the manners of the believers is forgiveness."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٦٥٦حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْأَشْهَبِ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ الْحَسَنَ يَدْعُو بِهَذَا الدُّعَاءِ «اللَّهُمَّ آتِ نَفْسِي تَقْوَاهَا وَزَكِّهَا أَنْتَ خَيْرُ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا أَنْتَ وَلِيُّهَا وَمَوْلَاهَا»

وَقَالَ الْأَشْهَبُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ قَالَ: " كَانُوا يَقُولُونَ: أَفْضَلُ أَخْلَاقِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ الْعَفْوُ
