ahmad-zuhd:1351ʿAbdullāh from my father > Abū Saʿīd a freed slave of Banī Hāshim > al-Ṣalt b. Ṭarīf al-Maʿwalī > Ghaylān b. Jarīr > Muṭarrif

[Machine] "I found this person torn between Allah and Satan, so if Allah knows goodness in his heart, He will draw him towards it, and if Allah does not know goodness in him, He leaves him to himself. And whoever is left to himself is indeed perished."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٣٥١حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا الصَّلْتُ بْنُ طَرِيفٍ الْمَعْوَلِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا غَيْلَانُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ قَالَ

«وَجَدْتُ هَذَا الْإِنْسَانَ مُلْقًى بَيْنَ اللَّهِ وَبَيْنَ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِنْ يَعْلَمِ اللَّهُ فِي قَلْبِهِ خَيْرًا يَجْبِذْهُ إِلَيْهِ وَإِنْ لَا يَعْلَمْ فِيهِ خَيْرًا وَكَّلَهُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ وَمَنْ وَكَّلَهُ إِلَى نَفْسِهِ فَقَدْ هَلَكَ»
