The ultimate objectives of Islam

adab:294 –

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked, *“What is the thing that most frequently admits people into Paradise?” He said, “God-consciousness (taqwa) and good character.” He was then asked, “And what is the thing that most frequently admits people into the Fire?” He said, “The two hollow ones: the mouth and the private parts.”

الأدب المفرد:٢٩٤ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ جَدِّي عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَا أَكْثَرُ مَا يُدْخِلُ الْجَنَّةَ؟ قَالَ: «تَقْوَى اللهِ وَحُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ» قَالَ: وَمَا أَكْثَرُ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّارَ؟ قَالَ: «الأَجْوَفَانِ الْفَمُ وَالْفَرْجُ»۔

The Messenger of Allah was asked about that for which people are admitted into Paradise the most and he said, "Conciousness of Allah, and good character." And he was asked about that for which people are admitted into the Fire the most, and he said, "The mouth and the private parts."

الترمذي:٢٠٠٤ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي عَنْ جَدِّي عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَنْ أَكْثَرِ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ الْجَنَّةَ فَقَالَ «تَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَحُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ۔» وَسُئِلَ عَنْ أَكْثَرِ مَا يُدْخِلُ النَّاسَ النَّارَ فَقَالَ: «الْفَمُ وَالْفَرْجُ۔»

قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ غَرِيبٌ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ هُوَ ابْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الأَوْدِيُّ

ibnmajah:4246 – Hārūn b. Isḥāq And ʿAbd Allāh b. Saʿīd > ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs > Abīh Waʿammih from his father > Abū Hurayrah

“The Prophet ﷺ was asked: ‘What most admits people to Paradise?’ He said: ‘Piety and good manners.’ And he was asked: ‘What most leads people to Hell?’ He said: ‘The two hollow ones: The mouth and the private part.’”
