Fara' was the first animal born to them (the Arabs) which they sacrificed.  

أبو داود:٢٨٣٢ – حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ

الْفَرَعُ أَوَّلُ النِّتَاجِ كَانَ يُنْتَجُ لَهُمْ فَيَذْبَحُونَهُ

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no 'fringe' or 'forelock', and the 'fringe' is the first offspring that they would breed and then slaughter it."
