tabarani:8808 – Muḥammad b. al-Naḍr al-Azdī > Muʿāwiyah b. ʿAmr > Zāʾidah > al-Aʿmash > Shaqīq > ʿAbd

[Machine] Abdullah said, "By Allah, I believe that the knowledge of Umar, if it were to be placed in one scale of the balance and the knowledge of all the living people of the earth were to be placed in the other scale, the knowledge of Umar would outweigh them." Sulaiman said, "So I mentioned it to him (Umar), and he said, 'I believe that the knowledge of Umar has taken away nine-tenths of the knowledge.'"  

الطبراني:٨٨٠٨ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ ثنا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ قَالَ قَالَ

عَبْدُ اللهِ «وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَحْسِبُ عِلْمَ عُمَرَ لَوْ وُضِعَ فِي كِفَّةِ الْمِيزَانِ وَوُضِعَ سَائِرُ أَحْيَاءِ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ فِي كِفَّةِ الْمِيزَانِ لَرَجَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَلْمُ عُمَرَ ؓ » قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ فَذَكَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ «إِنِّي لَأَظُنُّ عُمَرَ قَدْ ذَهَبَ بِتِسْعَةِ أَعْشَارِ الْعِلْمِ»

[Machine] "That the knowledge of Umar was placed in one scale of the balance, and the knowledge of the people of the earth was placed in the other scale, his knowledge outweighed theirs." Waki' said: "I denied that, so I went to Ibrahim and mentioned it to him. He said: 'And what you denied of that, by Allah, Abdullah said something better than that.' He said: 'Indeed, I believe that nine-tenths of the knowledge vanished on the day Umar passed away.'"

أَنَّ عِلْمَ عُمَرَ وُضِعَ فِي كِفَّةِ مِيزَانٍ وَوُضِعَ عَلْمُ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ فِي كِفَّةٍ لَرَجَحَ عِلْمُهُ بِعِلْمِهِمْ» قَالَ وَكِيعُ قَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ فَأَنْكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ فَأَتَيْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَذَكَرْتُهُ لَهُ فَقَالَ وَمَا أَنْكَرْتَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَوَاللهِ لَقَدْ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ قَالَ «إِنِّي لَأَحْسِبُ تِسْعَةَ أَعْشَارِ الْعِلْمِ ذَهَبَ يَوْمَ ذَهَبَ عُمَرُ ؓ »

[Machine] Abdullah said, "Indeed, I believe that on the day he died, nine-tenths of knowledge was taken away with him. And I believe that if the knowledge of Omar was placed in one scale of the balance and the knowledge of those who came after him in the other scale, the knowledge of Omar would outweigh theirs."

عَبْدُ اللهِ «إِنِّي لَأَحْسِبُ عُمَرَ قَدْ رُفِعَ مَعَهُ يَوْمَ مَاتَ تِسْعَةُ أَعْشَارِ الْعِلْمِ وَإِنِّي لَأَحْسِبُ عَلْمَ عُمَرَ لَوْ وُضِعَ فِي كِفَّةِ الْمِيزَانِ وَعَلْمُ مَنْ بَعْدَهُ لَرَجَحَ عَلَيْهِ عَلْمُ عُمَرَ ؓ »
