11. Jihad (2/3)
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is always goodness in horses till the Day of Resurrection. "
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Good will remain (as a permanent quality) in the foreheads of horses (for Jihad) till the Day of Resurrection, for they bring about either a reward (in the Hereafter) or (war) booty (in this world)."
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Horses are always the source of good, namely, rewards (in the Hereafter) and booty, till the Day of Resurrection."
The Prophet ﷺ said, "If somebody keeps a horse in Allah's Cause motivated by his faith in Allah and his belief in His Promise, then he will be rewarded on the Day of Resurrection for what the horse has eaten or drunk and for its dung and urine."
It is (offered) in the way of Allah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: For this you will have seven hundred she-camels on the Day of Judgment all of which will be muzzled.
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say-and he was delivering a sermon from the pulpit: Prepare to meet them with as much strength as you can afford. Beware, strength consists in archery. Beware, strength consists in archery. Beware, strength consists in archery.
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Lands shall be thrown open to you and Allah will suffice you (against your enemies), but none of you should give up playing with his arrows.
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Lands shall be thrown open to you and Allah will suffice you (against your enemies), but none of you should give up playing with his arrows.
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Whoever learns how to shoot (arrows) then abandons it, has disobeyed me.’”
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Allah, Most High, will cause three persons to enter Paradise for one arrow: the maker when he has a good motive in making it, the one who shoots it, and the one who hands it; so shoot and ride, but your shooting is dearer to me than your riding. Everything with which a man amuses himself is vain except three (things): a man's training of his horse, his playing with his wife, and his shooting with his bow and arrow. If anyone abandons archery after becoming an adept through distaste for it, it is a blessing he has abandoned; or he said: for which he has been ungrateful.
“The Prophet ﷺ passed by some people who were shooting (arrows) and said: ‘Shoot, Banu Isma’il, for your father was an archer.’”
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever shoots an arrow in the cause of Allah, then he has the reward of freeing a slave."
That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever spends a sum in the cause of Allah, it is recorded for him seven-hundred fold."
“Whoever fasts one day for the sake of Allah, Allah will move his face away from the Fire a distance of seventy autumns (years).”
“Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah, Allah will keep the Fire away from his face the distance of seventy autumns (years) for that day.”
He who observes fast for a day in the way of Allah He would remove his face from the Hell to the extent of seventy years' distance.
One who fasts a single day is distanced from Hellfires at a distance of seventy years
Every servant of Allah who observes fast for a day in the way of Allah, Allah would remove, because of this day, his face farther from the Fire (of Hell) to the extent of seventy years' distance.
"The Messenger of Allah said: Whoever fasts a day in the cause of Allah, Allah will separate his face (a distance of) seventy autumns from the fire in return for that day."
"The Messenger of Allah: 'There is no worshipper who fasts a day in the cause of Allah, but Allah, the most high, will separate (a distance of) seventy autumns between his face and the fire in return for that day."'
"I heard the Messenger of Allah say: 'Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah, Allah will separate his face from the Fire by (a distance of) seventy autumns."'
"I heard Abu Saeed Al-Khudri say: 'The Messenger of Allah said: Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah will separate his face from the fire by (a distance of) seventy autumns."'
"There is no worshipper who fasts a day in the cause of Allah, the mighty and sublime, but Allah the mighty and sublime, will separate his face from the fire by (a distance of) seventy autumns in return for that day."
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah, Allah, the mighty and sublime, will separate his face from the fire by (a distance of)seventy autumns."'
"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Whoever fasts one day in the cause of Allah, Allah will separate between his face and the fire by (a distance of) seventy autumns in return for that day."'
That the Prophet ﷺ said: "A worshipper does not fast a day in the cause of Allah except that, that day (of fasting) distances the Fire from his face by seventy autumns."
That the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever fasts a day in the cause of Allah, Allah shall put between him and the Fire a trench whose distance is like that between the heavens and the earth." This Hadith is Gharib as a narration of Abu Umamah.
Abu Hurairah reported the Prophet ﷺ as saying “He who dies without having fought or having felt fighting (against the infidels) to be his duty will die guilty of a kind of hypocrisy.”
"Whoever dies without having fought or thought of fighting, he dies on one of the branches of hypocrisy."
If one intends to do good but is unable, he is counted among the ones able to do it in spirit
We were with the Prophet ﷺ on an expedition. He said: There are some people in Medina. They are with you whenever you cover a distance or cross a valley. They have been detained by illness.
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, "A man fights for war booty; another fights for fame and a third fights for showing off; which of them fights in Allah's Cause?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "He who fights that Allah's Word (i.e. Islam) should be superior, fights in Allah's Cause."
A bedouin asked the Prophet, "A man may fight for the sake of booty, and another may fight so that he may be mentioned by the people, and a third may fight to show his position (i.e. bravery); which of these regarded as fighting in Allah's Cause?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "He who fights so that Allah's Word (i.e. Islam) should be superior, fights for Allah's Cause."
Fighting to elevate the Word of God is what is considered for His sake
A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "A man fights for pride and haughtiness another fights for bravery, and another fights for showing off; which of these (cases) is in Allah's Cause?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "The one who fights that Allah's Word (Islam) should be superior, fights in Allah's Cause."
A troop of soldiers who fight in tile way of Allah and get their share of the booty receive in advance two-thirds of their reward in the Hereafter and only one-third will remain (to their credit). If they do not receive any booty, they will get their full reward.
A troop of soldiers, large or small, who fight (in the way of Allah), get their share of the booty and return safe and sound, receive in advance two-thirds of their reward (only one-third remaining to their credit to be received in the Hereafter) ; and a troop of soldiers, large or small, who return empty-handed and are afflicted or wounded, will receive their full reward (in the Hereafter).
A man said: Messenger of Allah, allow tourism for me. The Prophet ﷺ said: The tourism of my people is striving in the path of Allah, the Exalted.
The Prophet ﷺ said: Returning home is like going on an expedition.
The Prophet ﷺ said: He who does not join the warlike expedition (jihad), or equip, or looks well after a warrior's family when he is away, will be smitten by Allah with a sudden calamity. Yazid ibn Abdu Rabbihi said in his tradition: 'before the Day of Resurrection".
The Prophet ﷺ said: Use your property, your persons any your tongues in striving against the polytheists.
I was present at fighting along with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and when he did not fight at the beginning of the day, he waited till the sun had passed the meridian, the winds blew, and help came down.
11.2 Martyrdom without Fighting
Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Five are regarded as martyrs: They are those who die because of plague, Abdominal disease, drowning or a falling building etc., and the martyrs in Allah's Cause."
Whom do you consider to be a martyr among you? They (the Companions) said: Messenger, of Allah, one who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr. He said: Then (if this is the definition of a martyr) the martyrs of my Umma will be small in number. They asked: Messenger of Allah, who are they? He said: One who is slain in the way of Allah is a martyr; one who dies in the way of Allah, is a martyr; one who dies of plague is a martyr; one who dies of cholera is a martyr. Ibn Miqsam said: I testify the truth of your father's statement (with regard to this tradition) that the Prophet ﷺ said: One who is drowned is a martyr.
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'If a man's property is wrongfully targeted, and he is killed, he is a martyr.”
“If a man's property is targeted, and he is fought and fights back and is killed, he is a martyr.”
Are you not aware that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had observed:" He who died in protecting his property is a martyr."
"I was sitting with Suwaid bin Muqarrin, and he said: The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: "Whoever is killed defending himself against injustice, he is a martyr."
"The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Whoever is killed defending his wealth, he is a martyr.'"
The Prophet [SAW] said: "Whoever is killed defending his wealth, he is a martyr."
