The one who is most versed in Allah's Book should act as Imam for the people, but If they are equally versed in reciting it, then the one who has most knowledge regarding Sunnah if they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest one to emigrate; it they emigrated at the same time, then the earliest one to embrace Islam. No man must lead another in prayer where (the latter) has authority, or sit in his place of honour in his house, without his permission. Ashajj in his narration used the word," age" in place of" Islam".

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us: The one who is well grounded in Allah's Book and is distinguished among them in recitation should act as; Imam for the people. and if they are equally versed in reciting it, then the one who has most knowledge regarding Sunnah; if they are equal regarding the Sunnah, then the earliest one to emigrate; If they emigrated at the same time, then the oldest one in age. The Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) used to touch our shoulders in prayer and say: Keep straight, don't be irregular, for there would be dissension in your hearts. Let those of you who are sedate and prudent be near me, then those who are next to them, then those who are next to them. Abu Mas'ud said: Now-a-days there is much dissension amongst you.

ʿAbdullah bin Sahl and Muhaiyisa bin Masʿud bin Zaid set out to Khaibar, the inhabitants of which had a peace treaty with the Muslims at that time. They parted and later on Muhaiyisa came upon ʿAbdullah bin Sah! and found him murdered agitating in his blood. He buried him and returned to Medina. ʿAbdur Rahman bin Sahl, Muhaiyisa and Huwaiuisa, the sons of Masʿud came to the Prophet ﷺ and ʿAbdur Rahman intended to talk, but the Prophet ﷺ said (to him), "Let the eldest of you speak." as ʿAbdur-Rahman was the youngest:. ʿAbdur-Rahman kept silent and the other two spoke. The Prophet ﷺ said, "If you swear as to who has committed the murder, you will have the right to take your right from the murderer." They said, "How should we swear if we did not witness the murder or see the murderer?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then the Jews can clear themselves from the charge by taking Alaska (an oath taken by men that it was not they who committed the murder)." The!y said, "How should we believe in the oaths of infidels?" So, the Prophet ﷺ himself paid the blood money (of ʿAbdullah). (See Hadith No. 36 Vol. 9.)

The Prophet ﷺ collected every two martyrs of Uhud in one piece of cloth, then he would ask, "Which of them had (knew) more of the Qur'an?" When one of them was pointed out for him, he would put that one first in the grave and say, "I will be a witness on these on the Day of Resurrection." He ordered them to be buried with their blood on their bodies and they were neither washed nor was a funeral prayer offered for them.

The Prophet ﷺ collected every two martyrs of Uhud (in one grave) and then he would ask, "Which of them knew the Qur'an more?" I saw in a dream that I was using miswak and two persons contended to get it from me, one being older than the other one. I gave the miswak to the younger one. It was said to me to give that to the older one and I gave it to the older one.

(353) muslim:3003Naṣr b. ʿAlī al-Jahḍamī from my father > Ṣakhr / Ibn Jūwayriyah > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar

It was shown in a vision that I was rinsing my mouth with miswak and two persons began to contend with one another for getting that miswak. One was older than the other. I gave the miswak to the younger one amongst them, but it was said to me: (Let it be given) to the older one. So I gave it to the older one.

The Prophet ﷺ said: Glorifying Allah involves showing honour to a grey-haired Muslim and to one who can expound the Qur'an, but not to one who acts extravagantly regarding it, or turns away from it, and showing honour to a just ruler.

A beggar passed by Aisha and she gave him a piece of bread. Another man who wore clothes and had a good appearance passed by her, and she made him sit down and he ate (with her). Story of how the Caliph ʿUmar ؓ suppressed his anger when he was unjustly accused

(357) bukhari:7286Ismāʿīl > Ibn Wahb > Yūnus > Ibn Shihāb > ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUtbah > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAbbās

Uyaina bin Hisn bin Hudhaifa bin Badr came and stayed (at Medina) with his nephew Al-Hurr bin Qais bin Hisn who was one of those whom ʿUmar used to keep near him, as the Qurra' (learned men knowing Qur'an by heart) were the people of ʿUmar's meetings and his advisors whether they were old or young. 'Uyaina said to his nephew, "O my nephew! Have you an approach to this chief so as to get for me the permission to see him?" His nephew said, "I will get permission for you to see him." (Ibn ʿAbbas added: ) So he took permission for 'Uyaina,

And when the latter entered, he said, "O the son of Al-Khattab! By Allah, you neither give us sufficient provision nor judge among us with justice." On that ʿUmar became so furious that he intended to harm him. Al-Hurr, said, "O Chief of the Believers!" Allah said to His Apostle 'Hold to forgiveness, command what is good (right), and leave the foolish (i.e. do not punish them).' (7.199) and this person is among the foolish." By Allah, ʿUmar did not overlook that Verse when Al-Hurr recited it before him, and ʿUmar said to observe (the orders of) Allah's Book strictly."
