nasai-kubra:5838 – Muḥammad b. Rāfiʿ > ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Maʿmar > Ibn Ṭāwus from his father > Ibn ʿAbbās

"I heard Ibn 'Abbas saying: 'We used to memorize Ahadith, and Ahadith were memorized from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. But if you go to the extremes of either exaggeration or negligence (in narrating Ahadith), there is no way we can trust your Ahadith.'" (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 27)   

الكبرى للنسائي:٥٨٣٨ – أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ «§كُنَّا نَحْفَظُ الْحَدِيثَ وَالْحَدِيثُ يُحْفَظُ

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَمَّا إِذَا رَكِبْتُمْ كُلَّ صَعْبٍ وَذَلُولٍ فَهَيْهَاتَ»

‘Indeed we would take Ḥadīth and they would be taken on authority of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah upon him. However if you take every difficult and docile [narration] then how far that is [from being upright]!  

مسلم:i٠١٢ – وَحَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ رَافِعٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ
