Umm Kulthum, the daughter of 'Uqba ibn Abi Mu'ayt, reported that she heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Someone who makes peace between people by saying something good or relates something good is not a liar."

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَقُولُ خَيْرًا أَوْ يَنْمِي خَيْرًا قَالَتْ وَلَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُرَخِّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِمَّا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ إِلاَّ فِي ثَلاَثٍ الإِصْلاَحِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَحَدِيثِ الرَّجُلِ امْرَأَتَهُ وَحَدِيثِ الْمَرْأَةِ زَوْجَهَا

She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The liar is not the one who reconciles between people, conveying good or saying good."

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: «لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا».

The Prophet ﷺ said: He who forged in order to put things right between two persons did not lie. The version by Ahmad ibn Muhammad and Musaddad has: The liar is not the one who puts things right between people, saying what is good and increasing good.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ لَمْ يَكْذِبْ مَنْ نَمَى بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ لِيُصْلِحَ وَقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمُسَدَّدٌ لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا

I did not hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ making a concession for anything people say falsely except in three matters. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say: I do not count as a liar a man who puts things right between people, saying a word by which he intends only putting things right, and a man who says something in war, and a man who says something to his wife, or a wife who says something to her husband.

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يُرَخِّصُ فِي شَىْءٍ مِنَ الْكَذِبِ إِلاَّ فِي ثَلاَثٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لاَ أَعُدُّهُ كَاذِبًا الرَّجُلُ يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ يَقُولُ الْقَوْلَ وَلاَ يُرِيدُ بِهِ إِلاَّ الإِصْلاَحَ وَالرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَالرَّجُلُ يُحَدِّثُ امْرَأَتَهُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ تُحَدِّثُ زَوْجَهَا

"One who brings peace between people is not a liar, he says something good, or reports something good."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا

[AI] "Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ that he said, It is not a lie for a person to speak about the reconciliation between people."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَيْسَ الْكَاذِبُ بِأَنْ يَقُولَ الرَّجُلُ فِي إِصْلَاحِ مَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ

That she heard Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "He who makes peace between the people by inventing good information or saying good things, is not a liar." (Using translation from Bukhārī 2692)

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتَ عُقْبَةَ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺيَقُولُ لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا وَقَالَتْ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُرَخِّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِمَّا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَالْإِصْلَاحِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَحَدِيثِ الرَّجُلِ امْرَأَتَهُ وَحَدِيثِ الْمَرْأَةِ زَوْجَهَا وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتُ عُقْبَةَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ

[AI] From his mother, Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqba, who was among the early emigrants, she said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: "The liar is not the one who reconciles between people by saying good things or spreading goodness." And he said once, "and spreads goodness."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الْخَرَاجُ بِالضَّمَانِ»

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيُنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا»

We asked Anas b. Malik: Which cloth was dearer to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? or Which cloth did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ like best to wear ? He replied: The striped cloaks (hibrah). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4060)

قُلْنَا لِأَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَيُّ اللِّبَاسِ كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ «الْحِبَرَةُ»

[AI] From the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "He who speaks good or spreads good is not a liar."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ قَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "He is not a liar who reconciles between people and says good or brings good news."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَقُولُ خَيْرًا أَوْ يَنْمِي خَيْرًا»

[AI] About his mother, Umm Kulthum bint Uqba, who was one of the early emigrants (to Medina), she said: "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: 'He who reconciles people is not a liar; he says good or does good.'"

عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "He who reconciles between people is not a liar."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ»

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "He who is not trustworthy in reconciling people with good intentions or saying something good is not a liar."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا»

[AI] She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The liar is not the one who reconciles between people and speaks good or says it."

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُهُ»

[AI] He informed him that his mother was Umm Kulthum bint Uqba, and she was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and she was one of the first emigrant women who swore allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . She said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'He is not a liar who reconciles between people and says what is good or does good.'"

أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أُمِّهَ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتَ عُقْبَةَ وَكَانَتْ مِنْ صَوَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَكَانَتْ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ الْأُوَلِ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَذَّابِ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا»

[AI] I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "The liar is not the one who speaks in order to bring reconciliation between people."

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ بِأَنْ يَقُولَ الرَّجُلُ فِي إِصْلَاحِ مَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ»

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ قَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»

[AI] They pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah pbuh and informed him that they heard the Messenger of Allah pbuh saying, "The person who reconciles between people and speaks good or spreads goodness is not a liar."

بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَقُولُ خَيْرًا أَوْ يَنْمِي خَيْرًا»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "He who reconciles between people and says good or promotes good is not a liar."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا»

[AI] She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "He is not a liar who reconciles between two people."

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ الرَّجُلُ بَيْنَ اثْنَيْنِ»

[AI] "Narrated by Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqba bin Abi Mu'ayt, she was the wife of 'Abd al-Rahman bin 'Auf and she used to pray in both directions (Qibla) with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'One who reconciles between people is not a liar, even if he speaks good or fabricates good.'"

عَنْ أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ أَبِي مُعَيْطٍ وَكَانَتِ امْرَأَةَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ وَكَانَتْ صَلَّتِ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَتْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ بِالْكَاذِبِ مَنْ أَصْلَحَ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ خَيْرًا أَوْ نَمَى خَيْرًا»

A liar is not one who tries to bring reconciliation amongst people and speaks good (in order to avert dispute), or he conveys good. Ibn Shihab said he did not hear that exemption was granted in anything what the people speak as lie but in three cases: in battle, for bringing reconciliation amongst persons and the narration of the words of the husband to his wife, and the narration of the words of a wife to her husband (in a twisted form in order to bring reconciliation between them). [AI] She heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "The one who reconciles between people, spreading goodness or saying good things, he is not a liar." She said: "I never heard him granting permission in anything that people talk about except in three: during war, reconciling between people, and a man speaking to his wife and a wife speaking to her husband." And Umm Kulthum bint Uqbah was one of the Muhajirun women who gave the pledge of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ .

أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَيْسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذِي يُصْلِحُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمِي خَيْرًا أَوْ يَقُولُ خَيْرًا وَقَالَتْ لَمْ أَسْمَعْهُ يُرَخِّصُ فِي شَيْءٍ مِمَّا يَقُولُ النَّاسُ إِلَّا فِي ثَلَاثٍ فِي الْحَرْبِ وَالْإِصْلَاحِ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ وَحَدِيثِ الرَّجُلِ امْرَأَتَهُ وَحَدِيثِ الْمَرْأَةِ زَوْجَهَا قَالَ وَكَانَتْ أُمُّ كُلْثُومِ بِنْتُ عُقْبَةَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرَاتِ اللَّاتِي بَايَعْنَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ

"لَيسَ الْكَذَّابُ الَّذي يُصْلِحُ بَينَ النَّاسِ فَيَنْمى خَيرًا وَيقُولُ خَيرًا".
