14.1 I'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan

١٤۔١ باب اعْتِكَافِ الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

muslim:1171a – Muḥammad b. Mihrān al-Rāzī > Ḥātim b. Ismāʿīl > Mūsá b. ʿUqbah > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

Ibn 'Umar (Allah be pleased with both of them) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan.

مسلم:١١٧١أ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مِهْرَانَ الرَّازِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ فِي الْعَشْرِ الأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

muslim:1171b – Abū al-Ṭāhir > Ibn Wahb > Yūnus b. Yazīd > Nāfiʿ > ʿAbdullāh b. ʿUmar > Rasūl

Abdullah (Allah be pleased with him) showed me the place in the mosque where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf.

مسلم:١١٧١ب – وَحَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الطَّاهِرِ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ أَنَّ نَافِعًا حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ قَالَ نَافِعٌ وَقَدْ أَرَانِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ؓ الْمَكَانَ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ فِيهِ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ

muslim:1172a – Sahl b. ʿUthmān > ʿUqbah b. Khālid al-Sakūnī > ʿUbaydullāh b. ʿUmar > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. al-Qāsim from his father > ʿĀʾishah

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan.

مسلم:١١٧٢أ – وَحَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ السَّكُونِيُّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

muslim:1172b – [Chain 1] Yaḥyá b. Yaḥyá > Abū Muʿāwiyah [Chain 2] Sahl b. ʿUthmān > Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth > Hishām [Chain 3] Abū Bakr b. Abū Shaybah And ʾAbū Kurayb Wa-al-Lafẓ Lahumā > Ibn Numayr > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿĀʾishah

This hadith has been narrated by 'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) through another chain of transmitters.

مسلم:١١٧٢ب – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ غِيَاثٍ جَمِيعًا عَنْ هِشَامٍ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَأَبُو كُرَيْبٍ وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُمَا قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ قَالَتْ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ

muslim:1172c – Qutaybah b. Saʿīd > Layth > ʿUqayl > al-Zuhrī > ʿUrwah > ʿĀʾishah

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (may peace he upon him) used to observe i'tikif in the last ten days of Ramadan till Allah called him back (to his heavenly home). Then his wives observed i'tikaf after him.

مسلم:١١٧٢ج – وَحَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ؓ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَعْتَكِفُ الْعَشْرَ الأَوَاخِرَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ حَتَّى تَوَفَّاهُ اللَّهُ ﷻ ثُمَّ اعْتَكَفَ أَزْوَاجُهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ
