26. The Book of Vows
Saʿd bin Ubada consulted Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, "My mother died and she had an unfulfilled vow." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Fulfill it on her behalf."
26.2 he Prohibition Of Vows, And Confirmation That They Do Not Avert Anything
The Prophet ﷺ forbade vowing and said, "In fact, vowing does not prevent anything, but it makes a miser to spend his property."
The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah says, 'The vow, does not bring about for the son of Adam anything I have not decreed for him, but his vow may coincide with what has been decided for him, and by this way I cause a miser to spend of his wealth. So he gives Me (spends in charity) for the fulfillment of what has been decreed for him what he would not give Me before but for his vow."
26.4 One Who Vows To Walk To The Ka'bah
The Prophet ﷺ saw an old man walking, supported by his two sons, and asked about him. The people informed him that he had vowed to go on foot (to the Kaʿba). He said, "Allah is not in need of this old man's torturing himself," and ordered him to ride.
My sister vowed to go on foot to the Kaʿba, and she asked me to take the verdict of the Prophet ﷺ about it. So, I did and the Prophet ﷺ said, "She should walk and also should ride." Narrated Abul-Khair from ʿUqba as above.:
