ذِكْرُ عَدَدِ الْحُصَيَّاتِ الَّتِي يَرْمِيهَا الْمَرْءُ عِنْدَ جَمْرَةِ الْعَقَبَةِ

ibnhibban:3873Aḥmad b. ʿAlī b. al-Muthanná > ʿAbd al-Ghaffār b. ʿAbdullāh > ʿAlī b. Mushir > al-Aʿmash > al-Ḥajjāj b. Yūsuf

[Machine] "He (Prophet Muhammad) was on the pulpit and said, 'Recite the Quran as Gabriel (the angel) recited it: the Surah in which Al-Baqarah is mentioned, the Surah in which Al-'Imran is mentioned, and the Surah in which An-Nisa' is mentioned.' Al-A'mash said, 'So I met Ibrahim Al-Nakha'i and informed him about it, and he insulted me. Then Ibrahim said, 'Abdul Rahman bin Yazid told me that he was with Abdullah bin Mas'ud when he threw pebbles at the Jamrat Al-'Aqabah and hid in the valley. He threw seven pebbles, and he recited Takbir with each one. So I said, 'O Abu Abdullah, people throw them from above it (the Jamrah).' Ibn Mas'ud said, 'By Him besides Whom there is no deity, this is the place on which Surah Al-Baqarah was revealed.'"

I heard Al-Hajjaj saying on the pulpit, "The Sura in which Al-Baqara (the cow) is mentioned and the Sura in which the family of ʿImran is mentioned and the Sura in which the women (An-Nisa) is mentioned." I mentioned this to Ibrahim, and he said, ʿAbdur-Rahman bin Yazid told me, 'I was with Ibn Masʿud, when he did the Rami of the Jamrat-ul-Aqaba. He went down the middle of the valley, and when he came near the tree (which was near the Jamra) he stood opposite to it and threw seven small pebbles and said: 'Allahu-Akbar' on throwing every pebble.' Then he said, 'By Him, except Whom none has the right to be worshipped, here (at this place) stood the one on whom Surat-al-Baqra was revealed (i.e. Messenger of Allah ﷺ).' "

"I head Al-Hajjaj say: 'Do not say Surat Al-Baqarah, say: 'The Surah in which the cow (Al-Baqarah) is mentioned."' I mentioned that to Ibrahim, and he said: "Abdur-Rahman bi Yazdi told me, that he was with 'Abdullah when he stoned Jamratul 'Aqabah. He went down the middle of the valley, stood opposite it - meaning the Jamrah - and throew seven pebbiles at it, saying the Takbir with each pebble. I said; "Some people climbed the mountain." He said: "Here - by the One beside Whom there is no other God - is the place where the one to whom Surat Al-Baqarah was revelated stoned."
