[Machine] Abdullah ibn Salam was known as Abu Yusuf. His name before Islam was Husein. When he embraced Islam, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ named him Abdullah. He was from the Banu Isra'il, from the descendants of Yusuf ibn Ya'qub, may peace be upon them. He was an ally of the Qawwalah tribe from the Banu Awf ibn Al-Khazraj. Abdullah ibn Salam passed away in Madinah in the year 43 AH during the caliphate of Muawiyah.

عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ يُكَنَّى أَبَا يُوسُفَ وَكَانَ اسْمُهُ قَبْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ الْحُصَيْنَ فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَ «سَمَّاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ» وَهُوَ مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ مِنْ وَلَدِ يُوسُفَ بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ عَلَيْهِمَا الصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ وَحَلِيفُ لِلْقَوَاقِلَةِ مِنْ بَنِي عَوْفِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ وَتُوُفِّيَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَلَّامٍ بِالْمَدِينَةِ فِي أَقَاوِيلَ جَمِيعِهِمْ سَنَةَ ثَلَاثٍ وَأَرْبَعِينَ فِي خِلَافَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ
