[Machine] From Nubayh Al-Anzi, from Ibn Abbas, who said: While I was reciting a verse from the Book of Allah Almighty and walking in one of the streets of Madinah, suddenly a man called out to me from behind, saying, "Follow Ibn Abbas." It turned out to be the Amir al-Mu'minin Umar. I said, "Shall I follow you to Ubayy ibn Ka'b and see if he recites it the same way?" He said, "Did he recite it to you the way you recited it?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Then send with me a messenger." He said, "Go with him to Ubayy ibn Ka'b, and see if he recites it the same way." So I set out with his messenger to Ubayy ibn Ka'b. I said, "O Ubayy, I recited a verse from the Book of Allah, and then Umar ibn al-Khattab called me after himself and said, 'Follow Ibn Abbas.' I said, 'Shall I follow you to Ubayy ibn Ka'b and see if he recites it the same way?' Then he sent his messenger with me, and did you recite it to him the way you recited it to me?" Ubayy said, "Yes." So the messenger returned to him, and I went about my business. Umar went to Ubayy, and I found him finishing washing his head, with his slave girl twisting his beard with a comb. Ubayy said, "Welcome, O Amir al-Mu'minin. Have you come as a visitor, or do you have a need?" Umar said, "I have a need." He sat down, and with him were two of his servants, until he finished his beard and she combed back the right side. Then she combed the left side. When he finished, he turned his face towards Umar and said, "What is the need of the Amir al-Mu'minin?" Umar said, "O Ubayy, how well the people are being deceived!" Ubayy said, "O Amir al-Mu'minin, I received the Qur'an directly from Jibreel while he was moist." Umar said, "By Allah, neither are you at fault, nor am I forbearing with you." He repeated this three times, then he got up and went away.
