[Machine] We learned the Quran in this mosque, which is known as the Basra Mosque. We used to sit in circles, as if I was watching it between two white garments. I took this Surah from it, "Read in the name of your Lord who created." [Al-Alaq 1] He said, and it was the first Surah revealed to Muhammad ﷺ.
تَعَلَّمْنَا الْقُرْآنَ فِي هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ يَعْنِي مَسْجِدَ الْبَصْرَةِ وَكُنَّا نَجْلِسُ حِلَقًا حِلَقًا وَكَأَنَّمَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ بَيْنَ ثَوْبَيْنِ أَبْيَضَيْنِ وَعَنْهُ أَخَذْتُ هَذِهِ السُّورَةَ {اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ} [العلق 1] قَالَ وَكَانَتْ أَوَّلَ سُورَةٍ أُنْزِلَتْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ
