darimi:73Muḥammad b. Aḥmad b. Abū Khalaf > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Muḥammad > Muḥammad b. Isḥāq > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Bakr > a man from al-ʿArab

[Machine] I stepped on the foot of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the Battle of Hunayn, and I had thick-soled sandals on. He took a whip and lightly hit me, saying, "In the name of Allah, you hurt me!" I felt guilty and said to myself, "I hurt the Messenger of Allah ﷺ". I spent that night in distress, knowing that Allah knew what had happened. The next morning, a man asked, "Where is so and so?" I said, "I swear by Allah, yesterday I did something to him." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "You stepped on my foot with your sandal yesterday and caused me pain. I hit you back lightly with the whip. Here are eighty sheep, take them as compensation."
