Ibn Umar, when he recited the Quran, would not speak until he had finished it. One day I stayed with him, and he recited Surat al-Baqarah until he reached a certain point. He said, “Do you know about what it was revealed?” I said, “No.” He said, “It was revealed concerning such-and-such,” then he continued.
كَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ ؓ إِذَا قَرَأَ الْقُرْآنَ لَمْ يَتَكَلَّمْ حَتَّى يَفْرُغَ مِنْهُ فَأَخَذْتُ عَلَيْهِ يَوْمًا فَقَرَأَ سُورَةَ الْبَقَرَةِ حَتَّى انْتَهَى إِلَى مَكَانٍ قَالَ تَدْرِي فِيمَا أُنْزِلَتْ قُلْتُ لاَ قَالَ أُنْزِلَتْ فِي كَذَا وَكَذَا ثُمَّ مَضَى
