3.34 How the (religious) knowledge will be taken away

[Machine] "Umar ibn Abdul Aziz wrote to Abu Bakr ibn Hazm: "Look for the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and write them down, for I fear the loss of knowledge and the departure of scholars. Do not accept any hadith except the narration of the Prophet ﷺ. Spread knowledge and sit with others until those who are unaware become well-informed. For knowledge does not perish until it becomes a secret." Al-Ala' ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Aziz ibn Muslim told us from Abdullah ibn Dinar regarding this, meaning the narration of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz until his saying about the departure of scholars."

Knowledge will be lifted by the passing away of scholars leaving behind ignorant people who will mislead others

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Allah does not take away knowledge by taking it away from the servants' ˹selves˺, rather he takes it away by the passage of the scholars until none of them remain. The people will take as their leaders ignorant persons who when consulted will give their verdict without knowledge. So they will go astray and will lead the people astray."
