Making up Ramadan before voluntary fasting in the ten days

bayhaqi:8395 – Abū Bakr Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm al-Ḥāfiẓ > Abū Naṣr Aḥmad b. ʿAmr al-ʿIrāqī > Sufyān b. Muḥammad al-Jawharī > ʿAlī b. al-Ḥasan > ʿAbdullāh b. al-Walīd > Sufyān > al-Aswad b. Qays > abīhi > ʿUmar ᴿᴬ

There are no days in which it is more beloved to me to make up the month of Ramadan than the ten days.

8395 He said: Sufyan narrated to us: Uthman ibn Mawhab narrated to us: I heard Abu Hurayrah, and a man asked him, saying, "I owe Ramadan, and I want to perform voluntary fasting during the ten days." He said, "No. Rather, begin with the right of Allah ﷻ and make it up; then perform voluntary acts afterward as much as you wish."

البيهقي:٨٣٩٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو نَصْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْعِرَاقِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْجَوْهَرِيُّ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ عُمَرَ ؓ قَالَ مَا مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ أَنْ أَقْضِيَ فِيهَا شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ مِنْ أَيَّامِ الْعَشْرِ.

8395 قَالَ: وَحَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، وَسَأَلَهُ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ عَلَيَّ رَمَضَانَ، وَأَنَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَتَطَوَّعَ فِي الْعَشْرِ، قَالَ: لَا بَلِ ابْدَأْ بِحَقِّ اللهِ فَاقْضِهِ، ثُمَّ تَطَوَّعْ بَعْدُ مَا شِئْتَ.
