[Machine] "O brother of the people of Sham, I am not one who praises them nor do I obey a creation in disobedience to the Creator." He said, "What do you say about the people of Sham?" He said, "I am not one who praises them." I said, "So what do you say about the people of Makkah?" He said, "I am not one who excuses them. They fight over the worldly life and compete in entering the Fire, like flies compete over a broth." I said, "So what is your opinion about this allegiance that Marwan has imposed upon us?" He said, "Ibn Umar said: When we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for hearing and obeying, he would teach us to the best of our ability."  

يَا أَخَا أَهْلِ الشَّامِ مَا أَنَا لَهُمْ بِحَامِدٍ وَلَا نُطِيعُ مَخْلُوقًا فِي مَعْصِيَةِ الْخَالِقِ قَالَ قُلْتُ مَا تَقُولُ فِي أَهْلِ الشَّامِ؟ قَالَ مَا أَنَا لَهُمْ بِحَامِدٍ قُلْتُ فَمَا تَقُولُ فِي أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ؟ قَالَ مَا أَنَا لَهُمْ بِعَاذِرٍ يَقْتَتِلُونَ عَلَى الدُّنْيَا يَتَهَافَتُونَ فِي النَّارِ تَهَافُتَ الذُّبَابُ فِي الْمَرَقِ قُلْتُ فَمَا قَوْلُكَ فِي هَذِهِ الْبَيْعَةِ الَّتِي أَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا مَرْوَانُ؟ قَالَ قَالَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ كُنَّا إِذَا بَايَعْنَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ يُلَقِّنُنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
