[Machine] So do not eat it, as some of the companions did not inquire about it to prioritize purity. This is narrated from Ibn Abbas and Ibn Umar, and others, while some of them inquired about it as a precaution. It is narrated from Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari that he said, "Delaying a meal from this palace is more beloved to me than eating cheese that I do not inquire about." And Al-Hasan al-Basri said, "The companions of Muhammad ﷺ would inquire about cheese but would not inquire about ghee."  

البيهقي:١٩٦٩٤أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ أنبأ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ ثنا يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ جَبَلَةَ بْنِ سُحَيْمٍ قَالَ سُئِلَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ عَنِ الْجُبْنِ وَالسَّمْنِ فَقَالَ سَمِّ وَكُلْ فَقِيلَ إِنَّ فِيهِ مَيْتَةً فَقَالَ إِنْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ فِيهِ مَيْتَةً

فَلَا تَأْكُلْهُ وَقَدْ كَانَ بَعْضُ الصَّحَابَةِ ؓ لَا يَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ تَغْلِيبًا لِلطَّهَارَةِ رُوِّينَا ذَلِكَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَابْنِ عُمَرَ ؓ وَغَيْرِهِمَا وَبَعْضُهُمْ يَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ احْتِيَاطًا وَرُوِّينَا عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَأَنْ أَخِرَّ مِنْ هَذَا الْقَصْرِ أَحَبُّ إِلِيَّ مِنْ أَنْ آكُلَ جُبْنًا لَا أَسْأَلُ عَنْهُ وَعَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْبَصْرِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ أَصْحَابُ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ يَسْأَلُونَ عَنِ الْجُبْنِ وَلَا يَسْأَلُونَ عَنِ السَّمْنِ
