[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "May Allah curse the thief who steals an egg and his hand is cut off, and who steals a rope and his hand is cut off." This is the wording of the hadith reported by Az-Za'farani.  

البيهقي:١٧١٥٤ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ أنبأ أَبُو حَامِدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى الْبَزَّازُ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الزَّعْفَرَانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الرَّزَّازُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثنا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَعَنَ اللهُ السَّارِقَ يَسْرِقُ الْبَيْضَةَ فَتُقْطَعُ يَدُهُ وَيَسْرِقُ الْحَبْلَ فَتُقْطَعُ يَدُهُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الزَّعْفَرَانِيِّ  

رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَبِي كُرَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ وَرَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ حَفْصٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ وَزَادَ فِيهِ قَالَ الْأَعْمَشُ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّهُ بَيْضَةُ الْحَدِيدِ وَالْحَبْلُ كَانُوا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّ مِنْهَا مَا يَسْوَى دَرَاهِمَ

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Allah curses a man who steals an egg and gets his hand cut off, or steals a rope and gets his hands cut off." Al-Aʿmash said, "People used to interpret the Baida as an iron helmet, and they used to think that the rope may cost a few dirhams."
