[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "O Abu Dharr, what will you do if the people become so exhausted that a man cannot even get up from his bed to go to the mosque?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Fast." Then he said, "O Abu Dharr, what will you do when death becomes so widespread that the house is filled with the deceased?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Be patient." Then he said, "O Abu Dharr, what will you do when killing becomes so rampant that the streets are filled with blood?" I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best." He said, "Follow those of them whom you know. I said, "I won't carry a weapon with me." He said, "Then you would be joining the people." But if you fear that the shine of the sword might dazzle you, then throw your garment over your face, for that would avert your and his sin." Abu Al-Hasan Ali bin Muhammad Al-Muqri informed us, Al-Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated to us, Yusuf bin Ya'qub narrated to us, Abu Al-Rabi narrated to us, Hammad bin Zaid narrated to us, from Abu Imran, from Al-Ash'ath bin Tarif, from Abdullah bin As-Samit, from Abu Dharr. He mentioned this narration with the same meaning, except that he said, "I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, should I not take my sword and carry it on my shoulder?' He said, 'Then you would be joining the people (in fighting).' I said, 'So what do you command me to do?' He said, 'Stay in your house.' I said, 'What if someone enters my house?' He said, 'If you fear that the shine of the sword might dazzle you, then throw your garment over your face, for that would avert your and his sin.'" [Hadith 16799]
