[Machine] Ali used to say, concerning the 'Ila' (a type of vow of abstinence), that if four months pass and it is not revoked, it is not a divorce. And if a whole year passes, it is not a divorce until it is revoked.

أَنَّ عَلِيًّا ؓ كَانَ يَقُولُ فِي الْإِيلَاءِ إِذَا مَضَتِ الْأَرْبَعَةُ أَشْهُرٍ وَلَمْ يُوقَفْ فَلَيْسَ ذَلِكَ بِطَلَاقٍ وَلَوْ مَرَّتِ السَّنَةُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهِ طَلَاقٌ حَتَّى يُوقَفَ
