[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "O Abdullah bin Amr, how much do you recite the Quran?" He replied: "In my day and night." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to him: "Recite it and perform Salah and sleep. Recite it every month." He said: "So I continued to decrease until he told me to recite it every seven nights." My father said: "I did not understand, and a word escaped me." He said: "Then he said to me: 'I fast and I do not break my fast?' He said: 'Fast and break your fast, and fast three days of every month.' So I continued to decrease until he said: 'The most beloved fast to Allah, the Almighty, is the fast of David: He fasted one day and broke his fast the next.' Abdullah bin Amr said: 'Accepting the permission of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is more beloved to me than having red camels.' I thought it was a doubt of 'Ubaidah."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَاعَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو فِي كَمْ تَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ فِي يَوْمِي وَلَيْلَتِي قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي ارْقُدْ وَصَلِّ وَصَلِّ وَارْقُدْ وَاقْرَأْهُ فِي كُلِّ شَهْرٍ قَالَ فَمَا زِلْتُ أُنَاقِصُهُ وَيُنَاقِصُنِي إِلَى أَنْ قَالَ اقْرَأْهُ فِي كُلِّ سَبْعِ لَيَالٍ قَالَ أَبِي وَلَمْ أَفْهَمْ وَسَقَطَتْ عَلَيَّ كَلِمَةٌ قَالَ ثُمَّ قَالَ قُلْتُ إِنِّي أَصُومُ وَلَا أُفْطِرُ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ لِي صُمْ وَأَفْطِرْ وَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ مِنْ كُلِّ شَهْرٍ فَمَا زِلْتُ أُنَاقِصُهُ وَيُنَاقِصُنِي حَتَّى قَالَ صُمْ أَحَبَّ الصِّيَامِ إِلَى اللهِ ﷻ صِيَامَ دَاوُدَ صُمْ يَوْمًا وَأَفْطِرْ يَوْمًا فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو لَأَنْ أَكُونَ قَبِلْتُ رُخْصَةَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لِي حُمْرُ النَّعَمِ حَسِبْتُهُ شَكَّ عَبِيدَةُ
