[Machine] A woman stole during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Those whom she stole from brought her to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, this woman has stolen from us." Her people said, "We will ransom her," meaning her family. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Cut off her hand." They said, "We will ransom her with five hundred dinars." He said, "Cut off her hand." So her right hand was cut off. The woman said, "Is there any repentance for me, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Yes, today it is as if you are born free from sin as the day your mother gave birth to you." So Allah, the Almighty, revealed in Surah Al-Ma'idah [5:39] from that verse to the end.  

أَنَّ امْرَأَةً سَرَقَتْ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَجَاءَ بِهَا الَّذِينَ سَرَقَتْهُمْ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةَ سَرَقَتْنَا قَالَ قَوْمُهَا فَنَحْنُ نَفْدِيهَا يَعْنِي أَهْلَهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ اقْطَعُوا يَدَهَا فَقَالُوا نَحْنُ نَفْدِيهَا بِخَمْسِ مِائَةِ دِينَارٍقَالَ اقْطَعُوا يَدَهَا قَالَ فَقُطِعَتْ يَدُهَا الْيُمْنَى فَقَالَتِ الْمَرْأَةُ هَلْ لِي مِنْ تَوْبَةٍ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ أَنْتِ الْيَوْمَ مِنْ خَطِيئَتِكِ كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْكِ أُمُّكِ فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ فِي سُورَةِ الْمَائِدَةِ {فَمَنْ تَابَ مِنْ بَعْدِ ظُلْمِهِ وَأَصْلَحَ} [المائدة 39] إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ
