[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prohibited the sale of uncertain items, because during the Pre-Islamic era, they used to sell the ropes of a camel predestined for slaughter. The Prophet ﷺ forbade such practice.  

أحمد:٦٤٣٧حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ بَيْعِ الْغَرَرِ وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ الْجَاهِلِيَّةَ كَانُوا يَتَبَايَعُونَ بِالشَّارِفِ حَبَلَ الْحَبَلَةِ فَنَهَى رَسُولُاللهِ ﷺ عَنْ ذَلِكَ

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prohibited the selling of gharar (ambiguous or uncertain transactions) and said, "Indeed, the people of the pre-Islamic era used to engage in this type of transaction, where a man would sell a rope in the hope that a camel would be born from it." Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd mentioned in his narration that the Prophet ﷺ prohibited this practice.
