[Machine] The wives of the Prophet ﷺ asked him about the tail. He said, "Make it a handspan." They said, "A handspan does not cover the nakedness." He said, "Make it a forearm." So, when one of them wanted to take a shield, she would let her forearm hang (i.e., to cover her body).  

أحمد:٥٦٣٧حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ زَيْدٍ الْعَمِّيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الصِّدِّيقِ النَّاجِيِّ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ

أَنَّ نِسَاءَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ سَأَلْنَهُ عَنِ الذَّيْلِ؟ فَقَالَ اجْعَلْنَهُ شِبْرًا فَقُلْنَ إِنَّ شِبْرًا لَا يَسْتُرُ مِنْ عَوْرَةٍ فَقَالَ اجْعَلْنَهُ ذِرَاعًا فَكَانَتْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ إِذَا أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَتَّخِذَ دِرْعًا أَرْخَتْ ذِرَاعًا فَجَعَلَتْهُ ذَيْلًا
