I saw Uthman ؓ do that and he told me that he saw the Prophet ﷺ do that.  

أحمد:٤٩٥ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي الْحَكَمُ بْنُ مُوسَى أَبُو صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنَاسَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ مَنَّاحٍعَنْ أَبَانَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ

أَنَّهُ رَأَى جَنَازَةً مُقْبِلَةً فَلَمَّا رَآهَا قَامَ وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ عُثْمَانَ يَفْعَلُ ذَلِكَ وَأَخْبَرَنِي أَنَّهُ رَأَى النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَفْعَلُهُ

It was narrated from Aban bin ʿUthman that He saw a funeral coming. When he saw it he stood up and said. I saw ʿUthman doing that and he told me that he saw the Prophet ﷺ doing that.
