[Machine] And about the people, when they go out (to fight) with what they call the enemy before actually engaging them in battle? And does a man have the right to carry (weapons) when he is in the military group without the permission of his leader? So he wrote to me saying that Ibn Umar used to participate in battles and carry his son on his back, and he used to say that the best action after prayer is jihad in the way of Allah the Exalted. And Ibn Umar would not miss participating in battles except for the command of Umar, and young children and a lot of possessions were left behind. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ became jealous against the Banu Mustaliq tribe when they attacked me while they were enjoying their blessings. So he fought against them, killed their warriors, captured their captives, and took Juwayriyah, the daughter of Al-Harith as a captive. Ibn Umar told me this hadith and he was in that army. And they were only called (to participate in battles) in the early days of Islam. As for a man, he should not carry (weapons) in the military group except with the permission of his leader.  

أحمد:٤٨٧٣حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالَ كَتَبْتُ إِلَى نَافِعٍ أَسْأَلُهُ مَا أَقْعَدَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنِ الْغَزْوِ

وَعَنِ الْقَوْمِ إِذَا غَزَوْا بِمَا يَدْعُونَ الْعَدُوَّ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُقَاتِلُوهُمْ؟ وَهَلْ يَحْمِلُ الرَّجُلُ إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْكَتِيبَةِ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِ إِمَامِهِ؟ فَكَتَبَ إِلَيَّ إِنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ قَدْ كَانَ يَغْزُو وَلَدُهُ وَيَحْمِلُ عَلَى الظَّهْرِ وَكَانَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ أَفْضَلَ الْعَمَلِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ الْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ تَعَالَى وَمَا أَقْعَدَ ابْنَ عُمَرَ عَنِ الْغَزْوِ إِلَّا وَصَايَا لِعُمَرَ وَصِبْيَانٌ صِغَارٌ وَضَيْعَةٌ كَثِيرَةٌ وَقَدْ أَغَارَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى بَنِي الْمُصْطَلِقِ وَهُمْ غَارُّونَيَسْقُونَ عَلَى نَعَمِهِمْ فَقَتَلَ مُقَاتِلَتَهُمْ وَسَبَى سَبَايَاهُمْ وَأَصَابَ جُوَيْرِيَةَ بِنْتَ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ فَحَدَّثَنِي بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَكَانَ فِي ذَلِكَ الْجَيْشِ وَإِنَّمَا كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ فِي أَوَّلِ الْإِسْلَامِ وَأَمَّا الرَّجُلُ فَلَا يَحْمِلُ عَلَى الْكَتِيبَةِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِ إِمَامِهِ
