ahmad:4611Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd > ʿUbaydullāh > Nāfiʿ > Ibn ʿUmar

[Machine] The Messenger of Allahﷺ said, "The month is twenty-nine days, like this and like this and like this. But if it is cloudy for you, then complete it as thirty days." Ibn Umar used to fast when the night of the twenty-ninth came and there was a cloud or fog in the sky.  

أحمد:٤٦١١حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الشَّهْرُ تِسْعٌ وَعِشْرُونَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاقْدُرُوا لَهُ قَالَ وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ إِذَا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ وَكَانَ فِي السَّمَاءِ سَحَابٌ أَوْ قَتَرٌ أَصْبَحَ صَائِمًا
