I said to Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: Ibn az-Zubair ؓ forbids tamattuʿ (in hajj) and Ibn ʿAbbas enjoins it. He said to me: I knew about this issue. We did tamattuʿ with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ - ʿAffan said: And with Abu Bakr - then when ʿUmar ؓ became Caliph, he addressed the people and said: The Qurʿan is still the Qurʿan and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is the Messenger. There were two mut’ahs at the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: one of them was the mutʿah of Hajj (i.e., tannaffitʿ) and the other was mutʿah with women.
