ahmad:2321 – ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad And Samiʿtuh > Minh > Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar > Dāwud > ʿIkrimah > Ibn ʿAbbās > Mar Abū Jahl

[Machine] Abu Jahl passed by and said, "Hasn't Muhammad exhausted you?" Then the Prophet ﷺ reproached him. Abu Jahl said to him, "Why are you reproaching me, O Muhammad? By Allah, I know a man who is more eloquent in his calls than me." Then Jibrilﷺ revealed the verse, "So let him call his assembly [of helpers]." [Quran 96:17] Ibn Abbas said, "By Allah, if he had called his assembly, the angels of punishment would have seized him."  

أحمد:٢٣٢١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْهُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الْأَحْمَرُ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

مَرَّ أَبُو جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ أَنْهَكَ فَانْتَهَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو جَهْلٍ لِمَ تَنْتَهِرُنِي يَا مُحَمَّدُ؟ فَوَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا بِهَا رَجُلٌ أَكْثَرُ نَادِيًا مِنِّي قَالَ فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ {فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ}العلق 17] قَالَ فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَاللهِ لَوْ دَعَا نَادِيَهُ لَأَخَذَتْهُ زَبَانِيَةُ الْعَذَابِ

[Machine] Abu Jahl passed by the Prophet ﷺ while he was praying and said, "Didn't I forbid you from praying, O Muhammad? You know that no one else has called people to prayer more than me." The Prophet ﷺ scolded him. Then Jibril, peace be upon him, said, "Let him make his call, we will call the Zabaniyah." By Allah, if he had made his call, the angels of punishment would have seized him.  

This had a sahih (authentic) isnad (narration) and it was not narrated by them both.
الحاكم:٣٨٠٩ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ الْعَدْلُ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ وَحَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى وَاللَّفْظُ لَهُ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْقَبَّانِيُّ ثنا أَبُو هِشَامٍ الرِّفَاعِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْمُحَارِبِيُّ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي هِنْدٍ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

مَرَّ أَبُو جَهْلٍ بِالنَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَقَالَ أَلَمْ أَنْهَكَ عَلَى أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ يَا مُحَمَّدُ لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ مَا بِهَا أَحَدٌ أَكْثَرَ نَادِيًا مِنِّي «فَانْتَهَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ» فَقَالَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ {فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ} [العلق 18] وَاللَّهِ لَوْ دَعَا نَادِيَهُ لَأَخَذَتْهُ زَبَانِيَةُ الْعَذَابِ

nasai-kubra:11620 – ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿīd > Abū Khālid / Sulaymān b. Ḥayyān > Dāwud > ʿIkrimah > Ibn ʿAbbās

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ prayed, then Abu Jahl came and said, "Did I not forbid you from this?" By Allah, you know that there are more people who listen to it than me. So Allah revealed, "Then let him call his associates; we will call the angels of Hell" [Quran 96:18]. Ibn Abbas said, "By Allah, if he had called his associates, the angels of Hell would have taken him."  

الكبرى للنسائي:١١٦٢٠ – أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ وَهُوَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ

صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَجَاءَ أَبُو جَهْلٍ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ أَنْهَكَ عَنْ هَذَا؟ وَاللهِ إِنَّكَ لَتَعْلَمُ مَا بِهَا نَادٍ أَكْثَرُ مِنِّي فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ ﷻ {فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ} [العلق 18] قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَاللهِ لَوْ دَعَا نَادِيَهُ لَأَخَذَتْهُ الزَّبَانِيَةُ
