ʿAli and ʿUthman ؓ met in ʿUsfan. ʿUthman was telling the people not to do tamattuʿ or ‘Umrah. ʿAli ؓ said: Why do you want to forbid something that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did? ʿUthman ؓ said: Leave us alone.  

أحمد:١١٤٦حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَاجْتَمَعَ عَلِيٌّ وَعُثْمَانُ بِعُسْفَانَ فَكَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ وَالْعُمْرَةِ فَقَالَ

عَلِيٌّ مَا تُرِيدُ إِلَى أَمْرٍ فَعَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ تَنْهَى عَنْهَا ؟ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ دَعْنَا مِنْكَ
