[Machine] Ata Al-Sulami used to wake up in the middle of the night and strike his body with his hand out of fear that his nature might have changed.  

الزهد لأحمد:١٩٠٦ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ فُضَيْلٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ رَأْسِ الْعَيْنِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ الصَّنْعَانِيُّ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ أَدْهَمَ قَالَ

كَانَ عَطَاءٌ السُّلَمِيُّ إِذَا انْتَبَهَ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ فَزَعًا إِلَى أَعْضَائِهِ يَجُسُّهَا مَخَافَةَ أَنْ يَكُونَ قَدْ غُيِّرَ خَلْقُهُ
