[Machine] I asked him, "O Abu Sa'eed, if Allah gives a person wealth, and he performs Hajj and gives in charity from it, is it permissible for him to enjoy some of it?" Al-Hasan replied, "No, if this person only had enough for his basic needs, and he gives the excess as charity, preferring that for the day he will be in need and lacking. Indeed, those who hold fast to the teachings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ – and those who followed them – used to dislike taking ownership of wealth and worldly possessions in order to rely on them. Their appearances would become harsh, and whatever provisions Allah gave them, they would take only what they needed and give the excess as charity, preferring that for the day they would be in need and lacking, as well as for their future needs in their religious and worldly affairs, between themselves and Allah."
