ahmad-zuhd:1343ʿAbdullāh from my father

[Machine] "If I were to stand between paradise and hell, and someone called out to me: 'O transgressor, would you like me to inform you which of the two you belong to?' I would rather be silent and remain as lifeless ashes, for that would be more beloved to me than being told which of the two I am."  

الزهد لأحمد:١٣٤٣حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ الثَّقَفِيُّ عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ قَالَ

«لَوْ قَدْ وَقَفْتُ بَيْنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَالنَّارِ وَنُودِيتُ يَا مُطَرِّفُ أَيَسُرُّكَ أَنْ نُخْبِرَكَ فِي أَيَّتِهِمَا أَنْتَ لَكَانَ أَنْ أَكُونَ رَمَادًا هَامِدًا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ أُخْبَرَ فِي أَيِّهِمَا أَنَا»
