[Machine] The companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were not skillful speakers nor did they engage in poetry in their gatherings, and they did not mention the matters of their pre-Islamic era. So when one of them was asked about something related to his religion, his eyes would turn red as if he was insane.  

الزهد لأحمد:١٢٠٠حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ قَالَ

لَمْ يَكُنْ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ مُتَحَرِّفِينَ وَلَا كَانُوا يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ فِي مَجَالِسِهِمْ وَيَذْكُرُونَ أَمْرَ جَاهِلِيَّتِهِمْ فَإِذَا أُرِيدَ أَحَدُهُمْ عَلَى شَيْءٍ مِنْ دِينِهِ دَارَتْ حَمَالِيقُ عَيْنَيْهِ كَأَنَّهُ مَجْنُونٌ
