"عَن كَثِير بْن نَمِر قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ برَجُلٍ مِنَ الْخَوارِجِ إلَى عَلِىَّ بْنِ أَبِى طَالِبٍ فَقَالَ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمؤْمِنينَ يَسُبُّكَ، قَالَ: فَسُبَّهُ كَمَا سَبَّنى، قَالَ: وَيتَوَعَّدُكَ، قَالَ: لَا أَقْتُلُ مَنْ لَم يَقْتُلْنِى، ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُمْ: عَلَيْنَا ثَلاثٌ أَنْ لَا نُقَاتِلَهُمْ حَتَّى يُقَاتِلُونَا".
