0.21. Cooperating in Righteousness and Piety

٠.٢١۔ باب التعاون على البر والتقوى

Allah ﷻ said: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety" [Maidah: 2],

And He ﷻ also said: "By the time, indeed, mankind is in loss, except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience" [Asr: 1-2].

Imam Shafī, may Allah have mercy on him, said words with a meaning that most people are heedless of contemplating this surah.

قَالَ الله تَعَالَى: ﴿وَتَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْبِرِّ وَالتَّقْوَى﴾ [المائدة: ٢]،

وَقالَ تَعَالَى: ﴿وَالْعَصْرِ إِنَّ الإنْسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ﴾ [العصر: ١ - ٢]

قَالَ الإمام الشافعي رحمه الله كلامًا معناه: إنَّ النَّاسَ أَوْ أكثرَهم في غفلة عن تدبر هذِهِ السورة

One who enables a soldier to fight in the path of Allah is like the one who fought

(177) bukhari:2843Abū Maʿmar > ʿAbd al-Wārith > al-Ḥusayn > Yaḥyá > Abū Salamah > Busr b. Saʿīd > Zayd b. Khālid

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Whoever equips a fighter in the path of Allah has indeed fought, and whoever looks after the family of a fighter in the path of Allah in a good manner has ˹also˺ indeed fought.”

(١٧٧) البخاري:٢٨٤٣حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَعْمَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي بُسْرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي زَيْدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ؓ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ: «مَنْ جَهَّزَ غَازِيًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَقَدْ غَزَا، وَمَنْ خَلَفَ غَازِيًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ بِخَيْرٍ فَقَدْ غَزَا».

(178) muslim:1896aZuhayr b. Ḥarb > Ismāʿīl Ibn ʿUlayyah > ʿAlī b. al-Mubārak > Yaḥyá b. Abū Kathīr > Abū Saʿīd > Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī

the Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched a detachment to Banu Lihyan of Hudhayl and said, “Let one of every two men go forth, and the reward is shared between them.”

(١٧٨) مسلم:١٨٩٦aوَحَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُبَارَكِ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى الْمَهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ بَعَثَ بَعْثًا إِلَى بَنِي لِحْيَانَ مِنْ هُذَيْلٍ فَقَالَ: «لِيَنْبَعِثْ مِنْ كُلِّ رَجُلَيْنِ أَحَدُهُمَا وَالأَجْرُ بَيْنَهُمَا».

The Prophet ﷺ answers a woman that she and her a child both are rewarded for Ḥajj

the Prophet ﷺ met a caravan at al-Rawḥā’ and said, “Who are the people?” They said, “The Muslims.” They said, “Who are you?” He said, “The Messenger of Allah!” Then a woman lifted up a child to him and said, “Is there Ḥajj for this one?” He said, “Yes, and you will have a reward.”

(١٧٩) مسلم:١٣٣٦aحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ وَابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ جَمِيعًا عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لَقِيَ رَكْبًا بِالرَّوْحَاءِ فَقَالَ: «مَنِ الْقَوْمُ؟» قَالُوا: الْمُسْلِمُونَ، فَقَالُوا مَنْ أَنْتَ؟ قَالَ: «رَسُولُ اللَّهِ!» فَرَفَعَتْ إِلَيْهِ امْرَأَةٌ صَبِيًّا فَقَالَتْ: أَلِهَذَا حَجٌّ؟ قَالَ: «نَعَمْ، وَلَكِ أَجْرٌ۔»

(180) bukhari:1438Muḥammad b. al-ʿAlāʾ > Abū Usāmah > Burayd b. ʿAbdullāh > Abū Burdah > Abū Mūsá

from the Prophet ﷺ who said: “The trustworthy Muslim treasurer who carries out ˹what he is commanded˺,” or perhaps said: “who gives what he has been ordered to give, fully and in abundance, willingly, and then hands it over to the one for whom he was commanded, he is one of the two who give charity.”

(١٨٠) البخاري:١٤٣٨حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «الْخَازِنُ الْمُسْلِمُ الأَمِينُ الَّذِي يُنْفِذُ»، وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: «يُعْطِي مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ كَامِلاً مُوَفَّرًا طَيِّبٌ بِهِ نَفْسُهُ فَيَدْفَعُهُ إِلَى الَّذِي أُمِرَ لَهُ بِهِ أَحَدُ الْمُتَصَدِّقَيْنِ».

A trustee who gives charity at the request of the owner gets rewarded for charity

The Prophet ﷺ said, "An honest treasurer who gives ˹in charity˺ what he is ordered to give ˹by the owner˺ fully, perfectly and willingly to the person to whom he is ordered to give, is regarded as one of the two charitable persons."

(١٨٠) البخاري:٢٣١٩حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ؓ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ: «الْخَازِنُ الأَمِينُ الَّذِي يُنْفِقُ»، وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: «الَّذِي يُعْطِي مَا أُمِرَ بِهِ كَامِلاً مُوَفَّرًا طَيِّبٌ نَفْسُهُ إِلَى الَّذِي أُمِرَ بِهِ أَحَدُ الْمُتَصَدِّقَيْنِ».
