Indeed they never feared any reckoning, given their rejection of the Resurrection,

القرآن:٧٨:٢٧ –

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا

{إنهم كانوا لا يرجون} يخافون {حسابا} لإنكارهم البعث.
