I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as saying this, but I do not know whether this thing was revealed to him or not, but he said to.  

مسلم:١٠٤٨b – وَحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ فَلاَ أَدْرِي أَشَىْءٌ أُنْزِلَ أَمْ شَىْءٌ كَانَ يَقُولُهُ بِمِثْلِ حَدِيثِ أَبِي عَوَانَةَ
