Aishah, the Prophet’s ﷺ wife, reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was with her, and that she heard the voice of a man asking permission to enter at Hafsah’s house. Aishah said: “So I said, O Messenger of Allah, I think it is so-and-so, the foster-uncle of Hafsah.” Aishah said: “O Messenger of Allah, this is a man asking permission to enter your house.” She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I think it is so-and-so, the foster-uncle of Hafsah.”

Aishah said: “If so-and-so were alive, her foster-uncle, he would have been allowed to enter upon me?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Yes. Indeed, breastfeeding makes unlawful what birth makes unlawful.”
