The hand of a thief was not cut off during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ except for stealing something equal to a shield in value. A similar hadith is narrated from ʿAisha through another chain.
أَنَّ يَدَ السَّارِقِ لَمْ تُقْطَعْ عَلَى عَهْدِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ إِلاَّ فِي ثَمَنِ مِجَنٍّ حَجَفَةٍ أَوْ تُرْسٍ حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ حَدَّثَنَا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ مِثْلَهُ
