Aishah’s marriage to the Prophet ﷺ and joining his household
The Prophet ﷺ married me when I was a girl of six years. We came to Madinah and stayed among Banu al-Harith ibn Khazraj. I fell ill, and my hair came out, then it grew back until it reached my earlobes.
My mother, Umm Ruman, came to me while I was on a swing with some friends of mine. She called out to me, so I came to her, not knowing what she wanted with me. She took me by the hand until she made me stand at the door of the house, and I was breathing heavily until part of my breath settled. Then she took some water and wiped my face and head with it. Then she brought me into the house, and there were women of the Ansar in the house. They said, "Upon goodness and blessing, and upon the best fortune." She handed me over to them, and they prepared me. Nothing startled me except the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the forenoon; then she handed me over to him. At that time, I was a girl of nine years.
That the Prophet ﷺ said to her, "You have been shown to me twice in my dream. I saw you pictured on a piece of silk and some-one said (to me). 'This is your wife.' When I uncovered the picture, I saw that it was yours. I said, 'If this is from Allah, it will be done."
Khadija died three years before the Prophet ﷺ departed to Medina. He stayed there for two years or so and then he married ʿAisha when she was a girl of six years of age, and he consumed that marriage when she was nine years old.
