[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Witr is an obligation, so whoever wishes, let him perform with seven (rak'ahs), and whoever wishes, let him perform with three (rak'ahs), and whoever wishes, let him perform with one (rak'ah). And whoever is overwhelmed (by sleep or forgetfulness), let him give a nod. These individuals agreed to remove this narration from Az-Zuhri and they followed it, along with Ma'mar ibn Rashid's narration from Wahb regarding it."  

البيهقي:٤٧٧٩وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ ثنا هِشَامٌ ثنا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْوِتْرُ حَقٌّ فَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِثَلَاثٍ وَمَنْ شَاءَ أَوْتَرَ بِوَاحِدَةٍ وَمَنْ غُلِبَ فَلْيُومِئْ إِيمَاءً اتَّفَقَ هَؤُلَاءِ عَلَى رَفْعِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَتَابَعَهُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ مَعْمَرُ بْنُ رَاشِدٍ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ وُهَيْبٍ عَنْهُ
