[Machine] We were with Saad and we came upon a valley with palm trees. Saad gave me two dirhams and told me to buy food and dates for us. I went but couldn't find anyone in the palm trees. I returned to him and informed him. He said to me, "If you are truly a believer, do not eat a date from the palm trees." So he slept and our donkeys slept hungry.  

البيهقي:١٩٦٤٦أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدِ بْنُ أَبِي عَمْرٍو ثنا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبِرْتِيُّ ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ ثنا عِكْرِمَةُ هُوَ ابْنُ عَمَّارٍ عَنْ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَوْلًى لِسَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ

كُنَّا مَعَ سَعْدٍ ؓ فَأَتَيْنَا عَلَى وَادٍ فِيهِ نَخْلٌ قَدْ أَدْرَكَ فَأَعْطَانِي دِرْهَمَيْنِ فَقَالَ اشْتَرِ لَنَا عَلَفًا وَتَمْرًا فَذَهَبْتُ فَلَمْ أَجِدْ فِي النَّخْلِ أَحَدًا فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ لِي إِنْ سَرَّكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مُؤْمِنًا حَقًّا فَلَا تَأْكُلْ مِنَ النَّخْلِ تَمْرَةً فَبَاتَ وَبَاتَتْ حَمَّارَتُنَا جَائِعِينَ
