If a man has only one garment, let him wrap it around his waist and then pray, for I heard 'Umar bin al-Khattab say that, and he said: Do not wrap it around the whole body if it is only one garment, as the Jews do. Nati' said: If I tell you that he attributed that to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I hope that I would not be lying.  

أحمد:٩٦حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ كَمَا حَدَّثَنِي عَنْهُ نَافِعٌ مَوْلاهُ قَالَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ يَقُولُ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ لِلرَّجُلِ إِلَّا ثَوْبٌ وَاحِدٌ فَلْيَأْتَزِرْ بِهِ ثُمَّ لِيُصَلِّ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ ذَلِكَ وَيَقُولُ لَا تَلْتَحِفُوا بِالثَّوْبِ إِذَا كَانَ وَحْدَهُ كَمَا تَفْعَلُ

الْيَهُودُقَالَ نَافِعٌ وَلَوْ قُلْتُ لَكُ إِنَّهُ أَسْنَدَ ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَرَجَوْتُ أَنْ لَا أَكُونَ كَذَبْتُ
