ahmad:16579Yaʿqūb from my father > Ibn Isḥāq > Muḥammad b. ʿAmr b. ʿAṭāʾ > Nuʿaym b. Mujmir > Rabīʿah b. Kaʿb

[Machine] I used to serve the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and fulfill his needs throughout the day until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ offered the last evening prayer. I would then sit by his door when he entered his house and say, "Perhaps there is something that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ needs." I continued to hear him say, "Glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah, glory be to Allah, and praise be to Him," until he gave up and slept. One day, when he noticed my exhaustion and dedication to his service, he asked me, "Ya Rabee'ah, ask me for anything and I will give it to you." I replied, "Let me think about it, O Messenger of Allah, and then I will let you know." I contemplated within myself and realized that this worldly life is temporary and passing, and that I have sufficient sustenance in it that is provided by Allah. I said, "I ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to intercede for me with my Lord, so that I may be saved from the Hellfire." He asked, "Who encouraged you to ask for this, Ya Rabee'ah?" I replied, "By Allah, speaking the truth, no one told me to ask for it, except when you said, 'Ask me for anything and I will give it to you,' and I looked at my situation and realized that this worldly life is temporary and passing, and that I have sufficient sustenance in it that is provided by Allah. I said, 'I ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to intercede for me with my Lord, so that I may be saved from the Hellfire.'” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ remained silent for a long time, then said to me, "I will do it. Help me to help you by increasing your prostrations."
