The best of people are the ones who protect themselves from sin and injustice, and don't hold rancor and envy in their hearts

IBNMAJAH 4216: from ʿAbdullāh b. ʿAmr —

It was said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: Which of the people is best? He said, “Everyone who has a makhmūm (tented) heart with a truthful tongue.” They said: Truthful tongue we know of, ˹however˺ what is makhmūm heart?’ He said: “It is one that is God-conscious and an untainted one: one that has no sin, injustice, rancor, or envy in it.”
